What Have You Learned?

In this course I have learned how to implement technology into a lesson plan. I have always implemented technology into my classroom, but I have never had to write it into a lesson plan and that was very helpful for me. I also found out about a few new web 2.0 sites that I was not familiar with prior to this course; more specifically I love Symbaloo!

AECT Standards

On my website I included a page on AECT standards and it was very helpful for me to break down each assignment and consider what I accomplished by completing each assignment from an objective point of view.  Each project addressed multiple learning objectives from design to development to utilization. I found that almost all activities fell into one category within each stage.  I will include below a copy of the breakdown I created for the website. You will notice in the area that says how standards were met I included not only the standard but one of the objectives from the mission statement for Boise State EdTech and a section of the Boise State Education department conceptual framework that applies to that project.

How Have You Grown Professionally?

Throughout this course I have created assignments and then implemented them into my classroom; to me this is the ultimate in professional growth. The ability to learn something new in a class and transfer that to my classroom shows growth as a teacher and as a life-long learner. I have also taken some of the new tools I learned from this course and created a professional development for my staff.

Teaching Impact

As I stated earlier; I have utilized many of the tools created in this course in my actual classroom. I love that we were able to design the entire course around our own subject area and grade level! It was so nice to spend time during the week and on the weekends for a project that would serve a dual purpose. The class has not only helped me as a teacher of my students but also as a teacher of other teachers. I have created a staff development with some of the concepts learned in this course, and I have two more planned for the end of the year addressing integration of technology in Language Arts and the Arts. This course also helped me learn to create a proper lesson plan that incorporates technology.

Theory Guided Assignments

When I designed the various elements of the website I had to consider the theories being presented in the literature, and my own theories of education and technology integration. In chapter two, when we learned about technology integration from the point of view of the various learning theories; I was able to consider my own thoughts on learning theories. I teach in an inquiry-based school that utilizes constructivist theories of learning. It was important for me to keep this in my mind as I created lessons that I would later use with my classes. I learned a great deal about the challenges and benefits of integrating technology into a curriculum effectively, but the section that was most impactful for me was the assistive technology section. I had to really give some thought as to how I could implement these ideas into my own classroom. I have several students this year with disabilities and this section was important in helping me be a better teacher. It required me to consider how I could include all of the students equally in the learning process and still use constructivist and constructionist rubrics.
